Deer Wisdom
Today, I came home from my therapy appointment with a Peet’s white chocolate caramel mocha and almost spilled it on the steps by the doorway when I saw this wonderful friend staring at me from the yard. We had a long stare, a brief conversation, and then I asked him if I could take his picture. He waited while I rummaged for my phone and then when I got everything set up, I asked him to look at the camera. This is the result, though he’s much larger in person! He hung out in the yard for a good hour and a half, and Kate said he’s a three point buck.
The spirit of the stag has come to me in many forms this year. Although not part of my main totem, the stag has been appearing in my visions, dreams and life, especially these past two months.
What is the meaning of deer wisdom? They represent gentleness, regeneration, adaptability, grace and innocence.
Being in touch with one’s inner child is also part of deer wisdom. 🦌
It’s also one of my favorite parts of Soul-based Coaching work and embodied arts practices. I’ve held the hand of my inner 3-5 year old child and stepped through a tunnel with her. We danced together on top of a rock, and I have been guided through convincing her to let go of a stuffed rabbit she wanted to hold onto. Finally, she wanted to be integrated inside a fire in my belly that will allow her to grow, and I’m now speaking with my inner 6-9 year old. It’s such powerful work.
It’s also powerful to witness. I’ve held space for my clients inner children to pull themselves out of thick mud hole with a tree branch, walk through a field with a dog and find creativity again, and hold themselves and be held with love and tenderness.
What is your inner child needing in this moment? Might the deer spirit hold some wisdom for you too?
